OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with investors to raise at least $30 billion in a new private funding round that could value the company at approximately $1.4 trillion. The potential financing would come ahead of a future initial public offering and highlights continued investor interest in major artificial intelligence companies.
The reported fundraising talks come as OpenAI continues to expand its business around ChatGPT and other AI products. The company’s annualized revenue reportedly reached around $40 billion in August, representing significant growth compared with earlier in the year.
OpenAI previously completed a massive funding round in March that valued the company at approximately $852 billion. That round had initially been expected to be the company’s final major private financing before going public, but plans for a 2026 IPO have since been pushed back.
If the new $30 billion round is completed, it could serve as additional financing before a future public listing while giving OpenAI more capital to invest in AI infrastructure, research, product development, and its rapidly expanding operations.
